
Juan Villegas
Directing
Juan Villegas was born in Argentina in 1971, he is a director, screenwriter, producer and has also worked as an assistant director and editor in both short films and feature films. He studied film direction at the Universidad del Cine, where he currently works as a teacher. During his first period as a director, he made the short films âRutas y veredasâ (1995), â2 en 1 autoâ (1998), âA happy afternoonâ and âHugoâ (2002). In 2001, he premiered his debut feature, âSaturday,â at the Venice International Film Festival, where he received great recognition from international critics. In 2005, he scripted and directed the feature film based on the novel of the same name by Antonio Di Benedetto âThe Suicidesâ, a film that opened the 20th edition of the BAFICI. As a producer he worked on feature films; âA Week Aloneâ, âEscuela Normalâ, âThe Third Shoreâ by Celina Murga, âMissâ, by Robert Bonomo, âVillegasâ, by Gonzalo Tobal; âDiarios de Mendozaâ, by LucĂa Mendoza and âDĂas extrañosâ, by Juan SebastiĂĄn Quebrada, among others. In 2010, he co-directed the feature film âOcioâ, alongside Alejandro Lingenti, based on the novel of the same name by FabiĂĄn Casas. In 2015, he made the documentary titled âVictoriaâ, based on the portrait of this artist's life over a period of one year. In 2018, he premiered âLas Vegasâ again at the BAFICI, a romantic comedy.
