Characters stuck in a life/habit that doesn't make them happy

Sometimes I enjoy exploring characters who knowingly remain stuck in or trapped within lives and routines that make them unhappy, yet they can’t escape. Wong Kar-Wai is probably one of the most notable filmmakers when it comes to creating such characters, but there are definitely others as well. What else should be in the list?
